Rosso Coffee Roasters has claimed the title of Calgary’s best small business for 2017.
The company, which opened its first cafe in Ramsay 10 years ago and now counts seven locations across the city, was named winner of the ATB Small Business of the Year award at a Calgary Chamber of Commerce awards gala Thursday night that capped a week of events devoted to local entrepreneurs.
“They are working tirelessly to build a brand, be part of the community and to improve the quality of the supply chain through engaging with suppliers and producers in a meaningful way,” Chamber president Adam Legge said in a news release.
Owners David Crosby and Cole Torode have travelled to Guatemala, Costa Rica, Rwanda and Colombia to purchase green coffee direct from producers.
“Starting with one location and growing to seven, Rosso stood out to our judges through their passion, business performance and their global approach to growing a local business,” said Legge.
The People’s Choice Award was won by Tool Shed Brewing Company Inc., which was also a small business of the year finalist. The other finalists were G.E.M. Inc., ProStar Cleaning and Restoration, Rockwood Custom Homes and Dogma Training and Pet Services.
